Resilience and Roots: Tommie Taylor’s 30-Year Journey in Haircare

Tommie Hayes, owner of Talent By Tammie Taylor, has an illustrious career in the haircare industry. From offering salon services to consulting around the world to sending a hair care product line to retail, Tommie has many achievements in her 30 years in the industry. This passion for hair began at 8 years old, when Tommie, not even tall enough to reach the chair, would shampoo and style her grandmother’s hair before church on Sundays. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Tommie noticed there was a new demand for hair repair and hair loss prevention.

“I decided to launch Talent By Tammie Taylor products because I saw an urgency of women, especially Black women, losing their hair. Knowing that I could not physically become the hairstylist to every woman, I wanted to help resolve, repair and restore their hair.”

Post-pandemic was difficult to maneuver for Tommie. As an independent contractor and salon owner, much of her earnings went back to the business, which left less money for personal bills. The Minnesota PROMISE Act grant was a necessity for Tommie to stay afloat with accessible funds as well as purchase more inventory for her product line. With the help of Round 2 of the PROMISE Act, Tommie can continue her mission to repair hair for all textures, all ages, and all genders. Now, she gets to change the world, one head of hair at a time.

Tommie’s salon is located at 920 E Lake St, Suite 137B. Stop by and visit on Tuesday through Saturday or check out more information, social media links, and hair care products on https://talentbytommie.square.site/.
