Local Supports Local: Laune Bread’s Story

Located on East Lake Street in South Minneapolis, Laune Bread is a community-focused bakery grounded in the belief that local supports local. Co-owners Christopher MacLeod and Tiff Ri are committed to sourcing ingredients as locally as possible, keeping over 50% of their ingredients budget within Minnesota, and another 25% within the Upper Midwest.

Chris first learned about the MN PROMISE Act Grant through the Lake Street Council’s newsletter. As someone who closely follows community updates, he attended multiple info sessions to understand the application process and eligibility requirements. Thanks to early preparation, Laune Bread was ready when the grant opened.

The funding provided a timely boost.

“We were on the fence about whether we could afford to hire another person. The grant helped us say yes and allowed us to put that money toward payroll.”

With additional support during the busy holiday season, Laune Bread was able to meet demand without being overwhelmed.

“Instead of feeling swamped and saying no to an interview, I’m able to show up here today and have a little more life in myself. Thanks to this grant.”
